Kagumoini Coffee Factory is part of the Kamacharia Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Muranga County, supported by more than 1300 active smallholder members. The cooperative has a long history of resilience and regeneration, originally formed after the liquidation of an older farming society. Today it is recognised for its strong focus on good agricultural practices, farmer training and investment in quality.
The farms surrounding Kagumoini sit on rich red volcanic soils and benefit from cool 16 to 26 degree temperatures and steady rainfall. These conditions, combined with varieties like SL28, Ruiru 11 and Batian, are ideal for producing expressive washed coffees with excellent clarity.
About the Lot
Fresh cherry is delivered daily to the factory, where it undergoes classic Kenyan washed processing. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight to develop sweetness and complexity before being soaked, washed and moved to raised beds for slow, even drying.
Producers can access pre financing for school fees, farm inputs and emergency support, ensuring stability and continued investment in quality. Sustainability is also a priority, with the factory utilising soak pits to manage wastewater and encouraging farmers to plant trees across their land.
