About the Producer
Cimizhu Estate was founded by Po ZHA, who left his banking career in 2007 to return to his hometown and pursue coffee farming. In 2009, he carefully selected the site and established Cimizhu Estate with a long term vision to elevate coffee quality while improving the livelihoods of the local community.
Early efforts to introduce coffee farming were challenging, as many villagers were unfamiliar with coffee cultivation. Through persistence, education and trust, Po ZHA gradually brought the community on board. Today, villagers are paid based on cherry quality, with additional rewards offered for exceptional lots. This quality focused model has allowed Cimizhu to move decisively into specialty coffee and gain recognition, including a second place award in the Unwashed category at the 2022 Best of Yunnan Green Coffee Competition.
Beyond production, Cimizhu Estate provides ongoing training in pruning, cultivation and harvesting, while continuously refining plant varieties to improve both yield and cup quality. Po ZHA’s goal remains clear: to build a sustainable coffee industry that brings long term prosperity and pride to the village.
About the Lot
This lot is processed as an anaerobic natural, with ripe cherries carefully selected before fermentation in a low oxygen environment to enhance aromatic complexity and depth. Controlled drying follows, allowing sugars and acids to stabilise while preserving structure and intensity.
In the cup, bright bayberry leads with a distinctive tart sweetness, followed by the savoury lift of umeboshi and a grounding finish of dark chocolate. It is an expressive, modern espresso that reflects both technical precision and a strong sense of place.
Cimizhu is a statement coffee. Bold, distinctive and forward looking, it offers a compelling glimpse into the future of specialty coffee from Yunnan.
