Origin Story

This naturally processed lot was harvested from the Caballeriza section of Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Jaramillo farm.
After harvest the coffee cherries were put in a steel sealed tank to anaerobically ferment for 120 hours
This is one of Hacienda Esmeralda’s longest fermentation process.
After fermentation the coffee was then slow dried on raised beds for 25 days.

Hacienda La Esmeralda, a renowned coffee producer in Panama, has played a pivotal role in the history of the Geisha coffee variety.
In the early 2000s, when the Geisha coffee was relatively unknown and underappreciated, it was an Ethiopian variety that made it’s way to Central America, planted as a wind breaker as it was a tall tree.
Hacienda La Esmeralda recognized its potential and began cultivating it on their plantation.
Through their meticulous care and cultivation techniques, Hacienda La Esmeralda showcased the true potential of Geisha coffee.
The unique terroir of the Boquete region, combined with the Peterson family's dedication to quality, allowed the Geisha plants at Hacienda La Esmeralda to flourish.
The coffee beans produced by these plants exhibited extraordinary flavour profiles that captivated coffee lovers around the world.

Hacienda La Esmeralda's Geisha coffee gained international acclaim when it won the prestigious Best of Panama coffee award 2004.

This accolade catapulted Geisha coffee into the spotlight, transforming it from an obscure variety to one of the most sought-after and expensive coffees in the world.
Since then, Hacienda La Esmeralda's Geisha coffee has continued to set the bar for excellence in the specialty coffee industry.
Its rich history intertwined with the rise of Geisha coffee showcases Hacienda La Esmeralda's commitment to innovation, quality,
and their pioneering spirit in bringing this exceptional coffee variety to the global stage.
