About the Producer
Bekele Gemeda lives in the village of Worka, around 13 kilometres from Gedeb. Unlike the tiny plots typical of many Ethiopian smallholders, Bekele farms 9.5 hectares across two plots, working full-time alongside his children. Coffee provides the family's livelihood and also supports two of his elder sons, who work with him on the farm.
What makes this release particularly meaningful is that Bekele's coffee showed enough quality and character to be kept separate under his own name, something that remains relatively uncommon in Ethiopia.

About the Single Farmer Project
The Single Farmer Project was created to build a marketplace for farm-traceable Ethiopian coffees.
Beginning in 2012, the project helped make it possible for roasters to highlight individual Ethiopian farmers rather than only a cooperative or washing station. Participating coffees are contracted under the producer's name, with the farmer involved in agreeing to the sale price. The goal is greater transparency, traceability and long-term relationships between farmers and roasters.
For us, that's what makes Halo Beriti particularly exciting. It's not simply a coffee from Yirgacheffe. It's Bekele's coffee.

About the Lot
Halo Beriti is a classic washed Ethiopian coffee. Ripe cherries are depulped before undergoing 8–12 hours of fermentation, then washed through water channels to remove the remaining mucilage. The parchment is spread across raised beds and dried for approximately 5–15 days, depending on the weather.
The result is beautifully restrained and elegant, with Green Tea, Mandarin and Peach leading a clean, delicate cup.
One farmer, one place and one harvest - with a name and story behind the coffee.
Happy brewing and stay curious.
