Country: Rwanda

Variety: Red Bourbon
Elevation: 1700 masl

Kageyo’s journey is one of determination and transformation. Nestled in Rwanda’s Western Province at 1,700 metres above sea level, this coffee comes from a cooperative that began humbly with a small washing station loan in 2009. By 2010, Kageyo had already made a name for itself—processing 67 tons of cherries and placing 2nd in Rwanda’s Cup of Excellence.
After some early challenges, including a difficult harvest in 2012, Kageyo found its stride through a partnership with the Rwandan Trading Company (RTC) in 2013. Since then, production, quality, and recognition have flourished. Today, under RTC’s stewardship, Kageyo has become a benchmark for high-quality Rwandan coffee.
Their natural process begins with a wet fermentation using a Penagos pulper, followed by sun-drying on raised beds—a meticulous technique that results in expressive, fruit-forward flavours and a delightfully juicy espresso profile. While not formally certified, Kageyo’s reputation for consistency and quality speaks volumes.
