About the Producer
Karatina Coffee Factory is part of the Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society in Nyeri County, located on the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya. The cooperative represents around 1,450 smallholder farmers who grow coffee on fertile red volcanic soils. A strong focus is placed on farmer education, good agricultural practices and long term sustainability, supported through training, agronomic guidance and community initiatives.
About the Lot
Cherries are delivered to the Karatina wet mill and processed using a traditional fully washed method with fresh river water. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight to break down sugars, then washed, soaked and dried on raised beds for 7 to 15 days. During drying, parchment is hand sorted and turned regularly to ensure even moisture loss and exceptional clarity.
The result is a classic Kenyan filter profile with depth and sweetness, showing ripe mulberry and dark plum notes balanced by a smooth sugar cane finish. Karatina is a refined and reliable expression of Nyeri terroir.
