Background Information
The Mugaya Coffee Factory has been a cornerstone of the Kagumo community in Kirinyaga, Kenya, since its establishment in 1975.
Serving nearly 1,000 smallholder farmers, this washing station plays a vital role in processing coffee cherries grown on small plots averaging just 200 trees per farm.
Farmers in this region cultivate not only coffee but also macadamia, avocado, corn, beans, and potatoes, creating a vibrant agricultural landscape.
The coffee is processed in the traditional Kenyan double-washed style, a method that enhances clarity and sweetness.
Fresh local water sources are used for washing, and the beans are meticulously dried on raised beds to ensure consistent quality.
The result is a coffee that bursts with vibrant fruitiness, complemented by a silky sweetness and a crisp, clean finish.
