Background Information
This lot comes from Rubirizi Hill near Gaharo, with cherries delivered to Bukeye Washing Station, operated by Long Miles Coffee. Bukeye was built in 2013 and quickly became known for its innovative approach to quality and farmer support. Managed by Agathon Ininahazwe, the station is where many of Long Miles’ pioneering initiatives began, including the Coffee Scout Program. This program provides agronomic training and ongoing farm guidance to thousands of producers throughout the region. It has also fostered improvements in organic pesticide alternatives, pruning, mulching and soil management.

Bukeye Washing Station has 113 dedicated staff members. During harvest, farmers from Rubirizi transport their cherries to the station, where each producer’s contribution is logged through the Long Miles card system. This ensures full traceability and helps the team identify top performing coffees each season.

Processing Details
Cherries from Rubirizi are fully washed using clean mountain water and dried on raised beds for around 20 days. The extended drying time, combined with the region’s cool climate, develops clarity, vibrant acidity and the delicate fruit character that defines the Northern Burundi profile.

Rubirizi is a cup that feels both familiar and exciting, bringing forward everything we love about washed coffees from Kayanza. Clean, crisp and fruit forward, it slots perfectly into any filter rotation.

For Filter/Batch Brew, we suggest 1:16 coffee to water ratio as a starting point.
